DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
The Opportunity
Our client, an established business specialising in commercial waste collection and disposal, is looking to recruit a reliable, hardworking and professional Driver / Waste Operative to join its expanding operations.
This is a varied, hands-on role combining driving duties with the physical collection and removal of commercial waste, unwanted equipment and other materials from business premises, including offices, banks and commercial establishments.
The position would particularly suit someone who enjoys being out on the road, is physically fit and takes pride in completing a job properly.
We would welcome applications from former military personnel, particularly those with experience in transport, logistics, general duties or other practical operational roles.
Duties and Responsibilities
Working as part of a small operational team, your responsibilities will include:
• Driving company vehicles to customer premises throughout the UK.
• Collecting and removing commercial waste, unwanted equipment and bulky items from offices, banks and other business locations.
• Safely lifting, carrying and loading items into company vehicles.
• Moving heavy or awkward items through buildings, including negotiating stairs, corridors and restricted spaces.
• Transporting collected materials to designated disposal or recycling facilities.
• Completing the necessary waste transfer documentation, job sheets and compliance paperwork.
• Maintaining a professional and courteous approach when dealing with customers.
• Ensuring company vehicles and equipment are used safely and responsibly.
• Undertaking overnight stays when required to complete collections further afield.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a dependable, practical individual who is comfortable undertaking physical work and travelling throughout the UK.
The successful applicant will possess:
• A full, clean UK Category B driving licence. An HGV licence is not required.
• Experience driving larger vans or undertaking long-distance journeys would be advantageous.
• Good physical fitness and the ability to lift and carry heavy or bulky items safely.
• A flexible approach to working hours and travel.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• The ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Good attention to detail when completing paperwork and documentation.
• A reliable, punctual and professional attitude.
Previous experience in waste management is not essential. More important is a willingness to work hard, learn the role and represent the business professionally.
This position could be particularly attractive to former members of the Armed Forces who are looking for a practical civilian role that offers variety, responsibility and the opportunity to work independently.
Working Hours and Overnight Travel
The role will involve approximately 38 hours per week on average, although hours may vary depending on operational requirements.
Due to the geographical coverage of the business, applicants must be comfortable spending up to 3–4 nights away from home every other week, depending on collection schedules.
All hotel accommodation will be arranged and paid for by the employer, with a daily meal allowance provided.
Salary and Benefits
• £14.00 per hour.
• Approximately £27,664 annualised, assuming 38 paid hours per week over 52 weeks.
• Hotel accommodation paid for when working away.
• Daily meal allowance during overnight stays.
• Company uniform provided.
• Full personal protective equipment (PPE) supplied.
• Opportunity to progress from an initial zero-hours arrangement into a permanent, full-time position.
