Are you a Psychology graduate looking to put your understanding of behaviour, development and learning into practice?
 
We are looking for a SEND Support Assistant to work within a dedicated SEND classroom in a diverse school in central Newcastle. You’ll support a small group of 9 pupils with SEND, helping them access both specialist support in the school’s SEND hub and learning within mainstream classrooms. 
 
About the School
This is a diverse, inclusive school in central Newcastle where pupils with SEND are supported through a combination of targeted provision and mainstream classroom learning. The SEND classroom provides a smaller environment where pupils can receive focused support before transitioning back into their mainstream classes.
 
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting pupils individually and in small groups within the SEND classroom
  • Helping pupils transition between the SEND hub and mainstream classrooms
  • Encouraging engagement, confidence and independence in learning
  • Supporting pupils to access classroom activities at an appropriate level
  • Working alongside teaching and SEND staff to provide consistent support
  • Building positive, professional relationships with pupils
Who We’re Looking For
This role could be particularly relevant if you’re a Psychology graduate looking to develop practical experience supporting children with additional needs.
  • A Psychology degree is desirable, but not essential
  • An interest in SEND, child development, behaviour or educational psychology
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach
  • Confidence adapting your communication to individual pupils
  • A genuine commitment to inclusive education
