Working Hours: Monday to Friday, school hours
Pay: £98–£120 per day, depending on experience

Protocol Education are recruiting for a Secondary SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a school in the Peterlee area.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with teenagers and wants to help young people with additional needs get the most from their education.

You will support pupils across the school day, working alongside teachers and support staff to help remove barriers to learning and encourage pupils to become more independent.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with SEND across KS3 and KS4
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Helping pupils access the secondary curriculum
  • Reinforcing instructions and classroom learning
  • Supporting literacy and numeracy where required
  • Encouraging pupils to participate in lessons
  • Supporting pupils with autism and communication needs
  • Promoting positive behaviour
  • Supporting emotional regulation
  • Helping pupils manage transitions between lessons
  • Encouraging independence and confidence
  • Supporting pupils during social times
  • Building positive relationships with students
  • Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff

This role would suit someone who understands that working with teenagers requires patience, consistency and the ability to build genuine relationships.

  • Childcare Practitioner

Previous secondary school experience is desirable but not essential.

Most importantly, you'll need to be approachable, resilient, consistent and confident working with young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
