Commercial Manager - Engineering & Infrastructure

Summary 

A successful group bringing together several engineering and construction companies delivering specialist design, build, and infrastructure services across the UK and Ireland are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to work across their businesses supporting supporting live projects and protecting commercial performance

Based from head office in Ringwood with options for Hybrid working, the Commercial Manager will oversee all commercial and contractual aspects of our design and construction activities. This includes contract negotiation and administration, risk management, cost control, and dispute resolution. 

The role will ensure that projects are delivered on sound commercial terms and in compliance with contractual obligations, while protecting the group's commercial interests and improving profitability. To establish, implement, and maintain group wide commercial and contractual governance frameworks including procedures, templates, and reporting tools ensuring consistency, risk control, and commercial visibility across the group companies.

Key Responsibilities

-    Review, negotiate, and administer client and subcontractor contracts (including NEC and bespoke forms).
-    Support bid teams in identifying commercial risks and mitigation measures during tender stage.
-    Manage contract variations, compensation events, and claims preparation/defence.
-    Work with project managers to monitor cash flow, valuations, and change control.
-    Review monthly financial control documents, project forecasts, and margin performance.
-    Support project managers in final account negotiations and project closure.
-    Develop, in collaboration with the COO, the full suite of commercial procedures, contract templates, and reporting processes to support NEC, JCT, and bespoke projects.
-    Lead the standardisation of CVR reporting, subcontract review, and contract risk registers across all companies.
-    Advise senior management on contractual risk exposure and mitigation strategies.
-    Work closely with design and delivery teams to ensure commercial awareness at all stages of the project lifecycle.
-    Provide training and guidance on contract administration and best practice.
-    Support the Group COO and company directors on key client and framework negotiations.

Key Requirements

-    Minimum 5 years' experience in a commercial or contracts management role within engineering, design, or construction.
-    Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, with experience drafting and negotiating Z clauses.
-    Background in multidisciplinary infrastructure, utilities, or energy projects.
-    Proven experience in change control, claims management, and contract dispute resolution.
-    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
-    Capable of working independently across multiple entities and managing competing priorities.
-    Relevant qualification (e.g. Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, or Commercial Management).
-    MRICS or similar Chartership preferred but not essential.

Salary: Upwards of £80,000 negotiable dependent on experience plus package including a company car, pension, and private medical insurance.
