We are seeking a dedicated Artistic Learning Support Worker to join a well-established SEND school in Shrewsbury. This is an exciting opportunity to use your creativity to support pupils with complex needs, helping them engage with education, express themselves and develop essential life skills in a safe, nurturing environment.

The school takes a holistic approach to learning, supporting pupils with autism (ASD), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and behavioural challenges. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), with individualised support in place to help them thrive.

The Role

As an Artistic Learning Support Worker, you will use creative and sensory-based approaches to make learning accessible, engaging and meaningful. Working on a one-to-one basis and within classroom groups, you will encourage pupils to explore their interests, communicate their feelings and build confidence through artistic activities.

You will work closely with teachers and support staff to create positive learning experiences tailored to each pupil's individual needs, abilities and interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils' educational, social and emotional development through creative activities.
  • Using art, drama, music, movement and sensory approaches to encourage communication and engagement.
  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support tailored to individual learning needs and EHCP targets.
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence, resilience and positive relationships.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and encouraging participation in daily routines.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to deliver personalised learning strategies.
  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive and stimulating environment where every pupil feels valued and supported.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a background, experience or qualifications in art, drama, music, performing arts, creative therapies or a similar field.
  • Has experience working with children or young people, ideally those with SEND.
  • Has an understanding of autism, SEMH needs and the challenges some pupils may face in an educational setting.
  • Is patient, empathetic, adaptable and confident in responding to individual needs.
  • Can build positive relationships and use creative thinking to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Is passionate about inclusion and helping young people reach their full potential.

What’s on Offer?

Through Protocol Education, you can benefit from:

  • Weekly PAYE pay with no hidden deductions.
  • Free Thrive Approach training and continuing professional development opportunities.
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant.
  • Access to local SEND and mainstream education opportunities.
  • Referral bonuses and career development guidance.
