SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Behaviour Support
South Shields | Full-time | Monday–Friday
We are currently looking for an experienced and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Reception-aged pupil within a specialist SEN setting in South Shields.
The role is Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm on a supply basis, with the opportunity for a permanent position. Should the role become permanent, the hours would move to 8:00am–4:00pm.
This pupil requires a high level of individualised support, particularly around behaviour and emotional regulation. He can display challenging behaviours, including self-injury, and therefore requires an adult who can remain calm and reassuring while helping him to manage difficult moments.
You will play an important role in helping him access the school day, develop positive routines and build confidence within the setting.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with children with SEN or additional needs
- Confidence supporting challenging behaviour
- A patient and nurturing approach
- The ability to remain calm in potentially difficult situations
- A genuine interest in developing a positive 1:1 relationship with a child
The school is looking to appoint quickly, with the pupil starting on Monday. Suitable candidates will be invited to attend a trial day, ideally on Monday.
Immediate availability is therefore highly desirable.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
