SEN Teaching Assistant – Stockton

We're working with mainstream, SEN and alternative provision settings across Stockton who are looking for calm, compassionate Teaching Assistants to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

What's the role?

You'll be supporting students who may struggle with regulating emotions, building positive relationships, managing behaviour, or engaging in learning due to SEMH needs and other additional learning requirements.

Your role will be to provide consistency, encouragement, and a safe environment where pupils can build confidence and succeed.

No two days are the same, but that's part of the magic.

You might be:

• Supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, Autism, PMLD and other additional needs
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students who may have experienced challenges in education
• Working 1:1 or with small groups to provide tailored support
• Helping students develop emotional regulation, social skills and confidence
• Supporting behaviour in a positive, restorative way
• Creating a calm, structured environment where students feel safe and ready to learn
• Encouraging engagement, attendance and participation in lessons

What you'll need

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs
• Confidence supporting students with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, PMLD and challenging behaviours
• A calm, patient and resilient approach to managing behaviours and building relationships
• Understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches is desirable
• SEN qualification or a care-based qualification
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
• References ready for clearance
