Protocol Education are recruiting a BSL & Communication Support Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEN setting in Sunderland.
You'll play an important role in helping pupils communicate, access learning and develop their independence.
What You'll Be Doing
- Using BSL to support communication
- Helping pupils understand and follow instructions
- Supporting classroom learning
- Working 1:1 and in small groups
- Encouraging communication and social interaction
- Supporting pupils during transitions
- Helping pupils communicate their needs
- Supporting emotional regulation
- Encouraging independence and confidence
- Working closely with teaching and SEND staff
- Supporting pupils during lessons, break and lunchtime
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Confident using BSL
- Patient and approachable
- A strong communicator
- Comfortable working with children and young people
- Understanding of individual communication needs
- Reliable and consistent
- Passionate about inclusive education
Previous experience in a SEN school, deaf education, communication support, care or education would be highly beneficial.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
