BSL Learning Support Assistant
Protocol Education are looking for a Learning Support Assistant with BSL skills to join a specialist SEN provision in Sunderland.
You'll be part of a supportive team helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and communicate more effectively throughout their school day.
Your Role Could Include
- Supporting pupils with their individual learning
- Using BSL to aid communication
- Supporting classroom activities
- Providing 1:1 support
- Working with small groups
- Supporting social interaction
- Helping pupils develop independence
- Encouraging positive behaviour
- Supporting transitions between activities
- Reinforcing communication strategies
- Working alongside teachers and specialist staff
- Supporting pupils during less structured parts of the day
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who is:
- Confident using BSL
- Warm and approachable
- Patient and understanding
- Reliable and consistent
- Comfortable working with pupils with additional needs
- Able to adapt their communication style
- Passionate about helping pupils make progress
Previous experience in SEND, deaf education, schools, care or support work would be advantageous.
