Protocol Education is working in partnership with a number of welcoming primary schools across Sunderland to recruit experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) for full-time roles starting this September.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant looking to take on additional responsibility by leading interventions, covering classes and supporting teachers to deliver engaging lessons. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who are confident working across different year groups and are flexible in supporting a variety of school settings.
Role Details
- Full-time
- September 2026 start
- Monday-Friday
- Working hours between 8:30am-3:30pm and 8:30am-4:30pm
- Term-time only
- Long-term role with permanent opportunities available
Your responsibilities
- Delivering pre-planned lessons during teacher absence
- Leading literacy, numeracy and phonics interventions
- Supporting pupils with SEND and additional learning needs
- Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers
- Promoting positive behaviour throughout the school day
- Supporting whole-class learning across EYFS, KS1 and KS2
We're looking for someone who
- Holds an HLTA qualification or has equivalent experience
- Has previous classroom experience
- Is confident leading whole-class learning
- Has excellent behaviour management skills
- Is organised, adaptable and passionate about education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
