Protocol Education is currently recruiting a caring and enthusiastic Makaton Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEND in a specialist educational setting in Sunderland.
This role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of communication beyond words and can help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for children with additional needs.
The Role:
- Support pupils with Autism (ASC), Speech & Language needs, and complex communication difficulties
- Use Makaton daily to support understanding, routines, and emotional expression
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, and wider SEND professionals
- Provide 1:1 and small group intervention support
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interaction
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
✔ Experience using Makaton in education, care, or support settings
✔ Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND
✔ A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
✔ Strong communication and relationship-building skills
✔ A genuine passion for helping young people succeed

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
