Psychology Graduate – SEMH Teaching Assistant

Do you have a Psychology degree and an interest in behaviour, mental health and emotional wellbeing?

Protocol Education are looking for Psychology graduates to work as Teaching Assistants within specialist and mainstream settings across Sunderland.

This role would suit someone who wants practical experience before pursuing a career working with children, young people or mental health.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs
  • Working 1:1 and in small groups
  • Supporting classroom learning
  • Helping pupils manage emotions
  • Encouraging positive behaviour
  • Building trusting relationships
  • Supporting confidence and self-esteem
  • Delivering targeted interventions
  • Mentoring pupils
  • Encouraging positive choices
  • Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams

Ideal Candidate

You could be a recent or upcoming graduate with a degree in:

  • Psychology
  • Criminology
  • Sociology
  • Education
  • Childhood Studies
  • Mental Health
  • Sports Psychology
  • Behavioural Science

We're particularly interested in Psychology graduates with a genuine interest in behaviour and young people's wellbeing.

No School Experience?

That's okay.

Previous school experience isn't essential. What matters most is your attitude, communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with young people.

Experience through volunteering, care, youth work, coaching, mentoring or support work would be advantageous.
