Quantity Surveyor - Residential Housebuilding

Location: Derby

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 + Car/Car Allowance + Benefits

An established residential developer is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Derby.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor who feels ready for the next step and is looking to move into their first Quantity Surveyor position.

You don't need to already be working at QS level. You'll be supported and mentored by experienced commercial professionals, with the opportunity to take ownership of your own developments and build your experience as you progress.

The Role

You'll be involved across the commercial side of residential developments, gaining responsibility for your own projects while having the support of senior members of the team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the commercial aspects of residential developments

  • Procuring subcontractors and suppliers

  • Preparing tender enquiries and reviewing quotations

  • Negotiating subcontract packages

  • Placing subcontract orders

  • Managing valuations, payments and subcontractor accounts

  • Monitoring costs against budgets

  • Preparing cost reports and forecasts

  • Completing monthly CVRs

  • Managing variations and commercial changes

  • Preparing final accounts

  • Working closely with Site Managers and other internal teams

  • Building strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers

  • Identifying opportunities to improve commercial performance

About You

The key requirement is that you're an Assistant Quantity Surveyor who feels ready to step up.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor

  • Residential or housebuilding experience preferred

  • A relevant degree, HNC/HND or equivalent

  • Good understanding of commercial processes

  • Strong numerical and organisational skills

  • Good attention to detail

  • Confident communication skills

  • A proactive attitude and desire to progress

  • Full UK driving licence

You'll be supported and mentored as you transition into the Quantity Surveyor role, so this is less about already knowing everything and more about having the right experience, attitude and ambition to take that next step.

What's on Offer

  • £45,000 - £50,000 salary

  • Company car or car allowance

  • Pension

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays

  • Full support and mentoring from experienced commercial professionals

  • Opportunity to take ownership of your own developments

  • Genuine progression from Assistant QS to QS

  • Varied residential developments

  • Supportive working environment

  •

If you're an Assistant Quantity Surveyor who feels ready for that promotion and wants the support to make the step into a Quantity Surveyor role, this could be a good opportunity to explore.
