Protocol Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Watford on a permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with a strong interest in Special Educational Needs to become part of a supportive school team and make a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting pupils with their learning and development
  • Assisting with the delivery of engaging classroom activities
  • Supporting pupils with communication and social development
  • Helping pupils develop independence and confidence
  • Managing and supporting positive behaviour
  • Working with pupils with a range of SEN, including Autism, SEMH and complex needs
  • Supporting the teacher with classroom preparation and activities
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be:

  • Experienced working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN setting
  • Passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Patient, caring and resilient
  • Confident providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Able to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Positive and proactive in their approach
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Experience within an SEN school is desirable, but not essential. We are also keen to hear from candidates with experience in care, youth work, psychology, sports coaching or other relevant backgrounds who are looking to develop their career within education.
